About Us

Huish Episcopi Leisure Centre is a dual use centre located at the heart of the Somerset Levels.  The centre provides leisure services to the small towns of Langport and Somerton and surrounding villages and the commuting area for Taunton, Bridgwater and Yeovil.  The Centre delivers a range of sporting, activity and exercise opportunities for all age groups, abilities and interests.

The centre was established and was managed by Somerset County Council (SCC).  In 2009 SCC took the decision to deliver its leisure provision through the Somerset Leisure Trust.  All dual sites were given the option of managing the centre themselves or turning the centre over to SLT.  In the interim period whilst the governing body were exploring these options, the centre was managed by SLT.  Responsibility for managing the Huish Episcopi Leisure Centre facilities, sports development programmes and sports events transferred from Somerset Leisure Ltd to Huish Episcopi School on 1 April 2010.

The school converted to Academy status on 2 September 2010.  The Centre Management report to the Leisure Centre Governing Body Committee.

The facilities are used predominately by the students of the school between 8.55am and 3.20pm term time only.  There are a range of fitness classes available, which take place in the specially designed exercise studio.  Adult courses are run both during the daytime and evening, and sports development is a key focus for the centre.  A full range of swimming lessons, Aquafit classes and general swimming sessions are offered in the swimming pool. There is a mixture of club and individual use throughout the centre and we strive to promote the use of the centre for all community use.

The stated overall of objective of Huish Leisure will be:

Huish Leisure is determined to create a sporting atmosphere that will add to the enjoyment of every member and employee of the facility.  Dedicated to the community, Huish Leisure Centre strives to support the community and our hope is that through the use of the facility members’ enjoyment and appreciation for sport, fitness and for school life to be enhanced.
